Panama Canal breaks new records

Just four days after Cosco Shipping paid $ 575,545 in toll to transit Panama Canal during its Expansion inauguration, another containership under Hong Kong’s flag “MOL Benefactor”  from the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., broke the record and paid a total of $829,468 for the transit of Panama Canal.

The vessel, the only appearance of which in Panama Canal would be impossible to imagine just few days ago, is 337 meters long and 48 meters wide. It began the transit through the locks of Cocoli in the Pacific on Friday, July 1 and moved to Agua Clara locks on the Atlantic side.

Until this moment a total of nine vessels passed through the new locks of Canal.

First days of the new locks are very exciting, as everything happens for the first time. For example, few days ago the vessel Lycaste Peace with NYK lines became the first one filled with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to transit the Canal.

So far there have been 174 registered quotas for the transit through the newly opened locks, of which 166 remain to arrive.

The new Panama Canal units 144 freight routs and 1,700 ports in 160 countries.
