Panama will conduct a feasibility study for light rail system between Panama City and David

Last week Panamanian Government has formally raised the question of conducting a feasibility study for the construction of a light rail between Panama City and David, Chiriqui.

Ministry of Communication has officially disclosed the statement on the account of a meeting between the President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, and the general manager of Alstom, French technological corporation, which supplied Panama with trains for its first metro line.

“President Varela said that along with the construction of Panama City Metro line 2 and 3, his administration has scheduled a feasibility study for the construction of a light rail system which could connect Western Panama City with the rest of the country. The first stage could connect Panama City and Penonome, the second Penonome and Santiago, the third Santiago and David”, says the official source.

“Investments in mass transport are the priority for Panama and we have big development plan of roadmap and other forms of connections to make the entire country widely accessible by 2030”, added the President of the Republic.
