New stage of development of International Tocumen Airport of Panama

The administration of the airport recently presented the new project of expansion. The look of new terminal is now known to the public and is schedules to be completed by 2016. The south terminal will be built by Brazillian architect Norberto Odebrecht and will slightly resemble with invisible aircraft “stealth”.

The opening of the north terminal was finished not so long time ago and its construction took $60 million out of budget. The demand however is constantly growing, that is why it was decided to build another terminal. The new project is considerably bigger and will cost $674 million. The new terminal will be integrated into South Corridor.

When finished, Tocumen will add 54 new gates for boarding, which will greatly improve passenger traffic. The maximum capacity for the south terminal will be 18 million passengers per year, which is five times bigger figure than current traffic.
